Responding to the spread of coronavirus, North Shore Health in Grand Marais is actively preparing to prevent and contain cases of COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus.

Effective immediately, all visitors – including family members, contractors and volunteers – will be screened before they visit residents at North Shore Health.

The doors into North Shore Living will be locked. Visitors will be asked several questions about health status and travel history and they will have their temperature taken. Based upon those results, North Shore Living and Hospital visitors may be restricted from visiting.

Older people and those living in congregate settings like nursing homes are at greatest risk for the most serious infections associated with COVID-19. Limiting contact is the best way to reduce the spread of this virus, according to local health officials.

The activities department at the local healthcare facility will work to ensure that loved ones can communicate with residents and patients by using video chat or calling. North Shore Health is carefully monitoring developments in the COVID-19 outbreak on an almost hour-to-hour basis and appreciates your desire to help protect our residents and patients.

Questions regarding this process can be directed to Kimber Wraalstad at 218-387-3260.

WTIP’s Joe Friedrichs spoke with Wraalstad for an update on this story.
