Dick chatted with Norwegian author Vidar Sundstol, whose award-winning crime novel, "The Land of Dreams," was just translated into English. The book is set here on the North Shore, and features people and places of our region. Sundstol lived here for a few years while his wife worked for the forest service.

Buck chatted with polar explorer Lonnie Dupre about his new film, "Cold Love," an exploration of the beauty of the world's frozen places and why they're so important to the health of the planet. The film debuted in Cook County Oct. 11 & 12.

Sarah Outen, a young British adventurer, is circling the globe by herself under her own power. She calls her expedition London 2 London  Via the World, and recently became the first woman to row solo from Japan to Alaska. Rick Skoog, who lives in Cook County and drives a snowplow for MNDOT, has another talent you may not be aware of: songwriting. He stopped in to Studio A Sept. 27 to talk with Buck and Dave Seaton about his songwriting career, living and working in Nashville, and lots more. You'll hear two songs he co-wrote in this interview.

The Bricklayers (Matt Trucano, founding artistic director; Kyle Cadotte, co-founding artistic director, and Jonathan Greene, international theater artist) joined Dave Seaton in Studio A Sept. 27. Conversation ranged from what mask theatre is to why theater and improv are important, and more. They performed Sept. 28 in Grand Portage, and are conducting workshops for students at Oshki Ogimaag Charter School the week of Sept. 30.

In the wake of the Navy Yard shootings in Washington, D.C., Buck spoke Sept. 27 with Rich Harwood, founder and president of the D.C.-based Harwood Institute for Public Innovation, and a nationally recognized expert in the fields of community change and crisis. Rich talked about what happens to communities in the aftermath of a crisis, and ways to start and help the healing process.
