An elderly driver will likely undergo a driving evaluation after striking a pedestrian at the stoplight in Grand Marais last Thursday.

Arvis Thompson, 70, of Grand Marais, was in the intersection of Highway 61 and Broadway Avenue when she was struck by a 2017 Buick Enclave. The driver, an 88-year-old Grand Marais man, told the Cook County Sheriff’s Office that he was making a left turn and the mirror on his car possibly blocked his view. The man stopped immediately when he realized what had happened.

Thompson told the sheriff’s office that the driver’s side wheel well hit her right hip and leg. She did not require medical attention.

The incident is under investigation to determine if a driver evaluation must be completed.
