The Gunflint Trail Fire Department search and rescue team and U.S. Forest Service personnel began conducting a search at about 11 p.m. Friday night after being notified of an adult male who had gone missing. He was camping at Trail’s End Campground with three others. The group told a passerby about the missing man and asked for assistance.

That party informed Cook County law enforcement  about the missing camper.

The search continued into Saturday morning focusing on the Grandpa Lake area. The Forest Service used a Beaver aircraft in the search. The man was found at Romance Lake just before noon.

The man appeared to be unharmed but was transported by Gunflint Trail Ambulance to North Shore Health as a precautionary measure.
