The search for an elderly Duluth couple came to a sad conclusion this afternoon when the pair were found deceased in a remote area near Brookston.

Ronald and Mary Tarnowski had not been in contact with family members since the morning of July 29, something highly unusual for the couple who never traveled far from their home.

Ronald was 82 and in the early stages of dementia. Mary was 78 and had some paralysis and speech difficulties due to a stroke.
Authorities released information on the Tarnowskis and their vehicle in hopes the public could help locate them. There were reports of possible sightings of the couple in nearby Lake County.

A U.S. Border Patrol helicopter discovered their vehicle in a rural area west of Highway 2 in the Brookston, Minnesota area around 4 p.m.

Police are investigating their deaths, but the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says foul play is not suspected.
On the Facebook page established during the search for the missing couple, the following statement was posted: “It is with great sadness that we must report that Ron and Mary Tarnowski have been found deceased in a remote area about a mile from their hunting camp.

“The family would like to thank the many men and women of law enforcement, the active and retired firefighters, the Alzheimer's Association, and the overwhelming support of the community and the media for the diligent efforts this past week.”
