On August 13, the Cook County Commissioners approved the hiring of a new emergency management director, Mike Keyport of Grand Portage.
The position came open with the resignation of Valerie Marasco-Eliasen June 14. After the posting and interviews, Keyport was selected to be the new emergency management director as a level 170, step 3 employee at a wage of $26.74 per hour.

Keyport has had experience with emergency services in Cook County. He served as the Grand Portage Emergency Management Director for eight years. He says he is looking forward to his new role and continuing the cooperative efforts between Grand Portage and Cook County, as well as with our neighbors in Canada.

WTIP’s Rhonda Silence sat down with Mike shortly after the announcement that he had been hired. Here’s their conversation.
