The Cook County Middle School Vikings made it to the championship bracket in the Feb. 2 Polar League Tournament

The Cook County Middle School Vikings had a great day at the Polar League 8th grade tournament at Esko High School on Saturday, February 2.

The Viking team of 7th and 8th graders fought hard in pool play, defeating the Esko Gold team and Cromwell to advance to the tournament, something that the girls have not been able to do in the previous two Polar League events.

Fans were proud of that accomplishment, noting that was a victory in itself.

The Vikings went on to face North Shore rival Two Harbors, taking the win in the first bracket, 40-17.

They faced off against South Ridge in Bracket 2 and won that round, 20-12.

That put the young Vikings in the championship round, where they played the Esko Blue. They lost to Esko Blue, 37-27.

Congratulations to the Viking middle school girls and Coach Kyler Hawsen on a great showing at the Polar League 8th grade tournament.
