Although flooding in parts of downtown Grand Marais is nothing new, Wednesday’s flooding from massive Lake Superior waves and heavy rainfall created extreme flooding.

If you must visit downtown Grand Marais, proceed with extreme caution.

Numerous businesses are working to keep water out of their businesses.

And although it is tempting to go to the lakeshore to take photos of the massive waves, please stay back from the powerful waves.

Gale force northeast winds are expected to continue until late this evening.

Motorists are advised to watch for flooded areas anywhere near the Lake Superior shoreline.

WTIP's Joe Friedrichs visited downtown Grand Marais during the afternoon of Oct. 10. The audio below is a report of what he observed, including a visit to the Cook County Historical Society.
