Caribou Highlands Resort in Lutsen called 9-1-1 at 8:33 p.m. on Sunday, March 26, reporting a possible fire. A townhome unit at the resort was very hot and filled with smoke, but the maintenance crew could find no sign of fire.

Lutsen Fire Department and First Responders were paged, along the Cook County Ambulance. The ambulance was asked to stand by as a precaution as firefighters prepared to go up on the roof to inspect the chimney.

The fire department extinguished the fire in the chimney. Firefighters assessed the multiple-unit townhome with a thermal imaging camera to ensure the fire had not spread.

Lutsen Fire Chief Larry McNeally said the fire department recommends that the chimney be inspected before it is used again.

All emergency responders were clear of the scene by 9:30 p.m.
