Lots of fun at "Dig Pink"

School District 166 hosted “Dig Pink” on Monday, October 16 offering some unusual matches.

The seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams started things off and they had a good time trading volleys. The eighth graders won the match 25-12 in a single game.

The second match was the junior varsity volleyball versus school faculty. There was some exciting action in the match that ended with a win for the JV team, 25-16.

Next up was the varsity volleyball team versus their parents. Because not enough parents were willing to face the varsity girls, there were two fill-ins on the team High schooler Luke Johnson and Volleyball Coach Marli Wester joined the parents’ teams.

The parents versus varsity match turned out to be the most exciting of the evening, with the parents down at the start. They made a rousing recovery though, tying the game first at 22-22, then 23-23. Finally, the parents’ team rallied and took the match, 26-24.

There was no break for the varsity girls’ team. Next up they faced the varsity football team. It looked bad at first for the football players, decked out in pink. However, the boys team stepped it up and earned 15 points. Not enough though to defeat the girls’ team. The final score was 25-15.

“Dig Pink” is a fundraiser to support those affected by breast cancer. It has been a Cook County High School tradition since 2009. Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society and the North Shore Health Care Foundation travel fund for cancer patients.
