A look at the Law Enforcement Log
Each week the Cook County Sheriff’s Office provides a brief report of calls made to the Cook County Law Enforcement Center in the past week. The report provides minimal details logged by law enforcement dispatchers.
The latest report covered Tuesday, December 18 to Monday, December 24 and WTIP Community Radio asked for more details on several matters, such as a report of criminal sexual conduct on December 18 and on December 20. Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Valerie Marasco said no charges have been filed, but these incidents are under investigation.
There were a number of “animal disturbance” calls, the first on December 19 regarding a dangerous animal on Townsite Road in Grand Portage. Marasco says that was a possibly wolf sighting near homes in the area. The animal was gone when the local conservation officer responded.
There was also a loose dog spotted on the Caribou Trail in Lutsen on December 19 and a lost dog in Grand Marais on December 21.
There was a deer/vehicle accident on West Highway 61 on December 22 and this was reported as an “incident with a squad.” Apparently, this deer/vehicle incident involved a Sheriff’s Office squad car.
Unwelcome telemarketers continue to work in Cook County. A fraud call was reported by a resident on Pike Lake Road in Grand Marais on December 21.
In addition, a “miscellaneous law call” on December 23 was a report of a person walking in the roadway. The individual was gone when the deputy responded.
