Leo Lake and Sawtooth Bluffs focus of county meeting
The public landing at Leo Lake and an update on the development plans for Sawtooth Bluffs were two key topics discussed during a meeting of the Cook County Parks & Trails Commission.
Leo Lake is located in the Mid-Gunflint Trail area, due west of Hungry Jack Lake and south of Moss Lake. It is a popular trout-fishing lake with a number of private cabins located on its shoreline. The public landing has been the focus of conversation at the county level in recent weeks, as private boats continue to be stashed at the landing and unwanted garbage is being left behind by visitors to the lake.
Regarding the Sawtooth Bluffs plan, there are a number of options that remain on the table for what to do with the 640-acre piece of property. Among the possibilities are multi-use trails (non-motorized), a disc-golf course and a rustic campground.
WTIP’s Joe Friedrichs spoke with Lisa Kerr, the land commissioner & parks and trails director for Cook County, about these topics.
