The idea of an expanded law enforcement center/jail facility in Grand Marais has raised concern for some community members. In an effort to answer some questions about the facility, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office has offered tours of the law enforcement center. Because everyone isn’t able to take time to go on the tour, WTIP joined a group on March 8.

Questions arose during and after the tour, so we invited Cook County Sheriff Pat Eliasen and Dispatch Supervisor/Jail Administrator Ben Hallberg to the WTIP studio to learn more about the proposed renovation and expansion.

Rhonda Silence spoke with the law enforcement officials in this three-part interview.

In Part 1, we hear what those who take the tour can expect to see.

In Part 2, we take a closer look at programming that could come with a law enforcement center expansion and renovation.

In Part 3, we learn more about personnel changes and inmate counts.
