Icy roads treacherous for all

The ice-covered backroads of Cook County were difficult to traverse on Monday, December 4, even for Cook County Highway Department equipment. A highway department grader moved over for an oncoming vehicle on County Road 14 and slid into the ditch. A highway department plow truck was called into service to pull the grader out.
County Road 14 was closed while the grader was being pulled out to ensure no other vehicles ended up in the ditch on the icy road.
Temperatures are expected to fall rapidly overnight so roads could again become very slick. The National Weather Service says strong winds will accompany rain and snowfall with gusts of 30 to 40 mph. Motorists are advised to use extra caution on the road.
