How to legally fish at Isle Royale on Lake Superior

As the National Park Service describes it, fishing at Isle Royale is an angler’s paradise.

Anglers can pursue trout and other species on Lake Superior or the inland lakes and streams.

However, what type of fishing license does an angler need to chase fish at Isle Royale National Park?

The easiest answer is this: To fish on Lake Superior near Isle Royale, anglers need a Michigan fishing license; to fish on the inland lakes on Isle Royale, anglers do not need a fishing license.
