Grand Portage wildlife official working to slow spread of CWD in Minnesota deer
Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) is a brain disease found in some deer, elk and moose populations. The disease continues to spread in some parts of Minnesota, including the northern part of the state.
The disease was reported in Beltrami County in northern Minnesota this spring, and there is a growing concern about the potential spread to the Boundary Waters and North Shore areas.
In September, for example, the Saint Louis County Board of Commissioners voted to place a pause on new deer farms to slow the spread of the disease in the region.
Meanwhile, wildlife officials working with numerous tribes in the region, including Seth Moore from the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, are working to slow the spread of CWD.
WTIP's Joe Friedrichs spoke with Moore to learn more on this situation and the ongoing effort to slow the spread of CWD in Minnesota
