Grand Marais PUC working to eliminate wastewater plant odors

This last summer a number of business owners in Grand Marais complained about the smell from the city’s wastewater treatment plant. Some were concerned that the odor sours things for visitors to what has been billed as the “Coolest Small Town in America.”

At the December meeting of the Grand Marais Public Utilities Commission, Wastewater Treatment Superintendent Tom Nelson gave a report on a trial program for treating septic waste, which is behind the increased odor last summer.
