Grand Marais Playhouse preparing for Shrek
The Grand Marais Playhouse is hosting a production meeting for community members interested in working on the set or costumes for the upcoming youth/community play, Shrek Jrm the Musical. The meeting to discuss the design concept and how people can be involved will be Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts.
Grand Marais Playhouse Artistic Director Sue Hennessy says “many, many hands” are needed. She adds, “Come take a role in making it come to life!”
For students interested in auditioning, there will be sessions sharing the music and story of the play on February 21 and 22 at the ACA from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Hennessy says this is not mandatory, but highly encouraged, as actors must be prepared to sing a section of a song from the play and read a portion of the script.
The actual auditions for Shrek, Jr. the Musical will be February 26 at 3:30 p.m. at the ACA. Anyone grades 3-12 may audition.
There are many backstage roles as well for those interested in technical theater. Hennessy says, “Techies should come to auditions too, to sign up.”
There are many opportunities for parts, large and small, from Shrek and Fiona to knights, fairy tale characters and woodland creatures.
Once actors are selected, rehearsals will be Monday – Thursday 3:30 – 5 p.m. Specific schedules will vary by role.
Performances are April 20-22 and 27-29, Thursday - Saturday 7 p.m. and Sundays 2 p.m.
