The Remarkable Susan is a Grand Marais Playhouse production that is remarkable in a number of ways.

First, the play by Tim Kelly, tells the tale of the trial of Susan B. Anthony for the crime of casting a ballot. A timely message leading up to the 2020 election.

But it's not just a powerful reminder about voting rights that is remarkable. It is remarkable that the Grand Marais Playhouse is mounting a production at all under the coronavirus guidelines. The actors will be masked and will observe social distancing recommendations. And there will be no audience.

The Remarkable Susan will be a live-streaming performance on Monday, October 26 and Tuesday, October 27 at 7 p.m. For information on tickets and a link to the live performance, visit the Grand Marais Playhouse website.

Another remarkable aspect of the play is that it will take place in the courtroom at the Cook County courthouse. Actors will wear modern dress as the struggle for voting rights is timeless.

Grand Marais Playhouse Director and director of The Remarkable Susan, Sue Hennessy, encourages everyone to stream the play, which is short--just 25 minutes.

Hennessy adds that the ability to live-stream is made possible in part by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council, thanks to appropriations from the Minnesota State Legislature's general and arts and cultural heritage funds.

And Director Hennessy shares the cast line-up:
Claire Smith as Susan B Anthony
Bob Padzieski as Judge Hunt
Saira Smith as Mr. Crowley, district attorney
Ella Hedstrom as Henry Selden, Susan’s attorney
Kylie Viren as Hannah, Susan’s sister
Jane Gellner as Mrs. Williams, postmistress
Bryn Fitzgerald Wells as the journalist
Thea Hedstrom as a young girl
Diane Stoddard as “woman
Kevin Kager as “man”
Kaylee Selin as the clerk of court
