Grand Marais Playhouse launches its summer season
The Grand Marais Playhouse Summer Theater Festival begins on July 19, with Shrek the Musical and on July 20, Mom’s Gift.
Shrek the Musical follows this spring’s youth production of Shrek, Jr and features a cast of youths and adults from the community. Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, Shrek The Musical is a Tony Award-winning fairy tale adventure, featuring all new songs from Jeanine Tesori.
Shrek presents a treasure trove of creative opportunities, including costumes, sets, puppets (there is a fire-breathing dragon and more! Irreverently fun for the whole family, Shrek proves that beauty is truly in the eye of the ogre.
And Mom’s Gift is billed as a comedy with a heart. It has a delightful It’s A Wonderful Life twist and it is sure to make you laugh and cry and laugh again.
WTIP volunteer Gary Latz talks with Artistic and Technical Director Sue Hennessey and cast members Jonathan Hedstrom and Karina Roth to learn more about the Festival and about Shrek the Musical.
