Grand Marais Pharmacy sees a "phenomenal" increase in patients
In April, the North Shore Pharmacy in Grand Marais closed its doors. That means instead of two pharmacies in Grand Marais, there is now only one—Grand Marais Pharmacy.
In addition to welcoming new pharmacy patients to the pharmacy in the log building on Highway 61, Grand Marais Pharmacy is now also providing pharmacy services to the North Shore Health Care Center. And of course, the summer season is busy for everyone, pharmacies, included.
Another factor is the fact that a pharmacist who was to join the staff this spring took a job elsewhere, leaving Pharmacist-in-Charge Heidi Barron as the sole pharmacist until someone else comes on board.
These greatly increased numbers has meant some longer waits for some patients and has led to some frustration.
WTIP’s Rhonda Silence visited with Pharmacist Heidi Barron and Glenn Larsen, a Grand Marais resident who is one of the owners of the Grand Marais Pharmacy.
They thanked patrons for their patience during this transition and added appreciation to the staff that is working to keep up. Working at the Grand Marais Pharmacy at this time is Pharmacist Heidi Barron, Kevin Jansen, Jennie Lashinski, Molly LaFreniere, Sharon Hart, Shawn Howe and Op Sheils.
Here's Rhonda with Heidi Barron and Glenn Larsen with a look at the situation at the local pharmacy.
