Grand Marais Lions Club still going strong
The Grand Marais Lions Club, like so many other service organizations, is always looking for more people to be involved. Recent calls for volunteers apparently led to a rumor that the Lions would not be hosting the Fisherman's Picnic in 2019. The 2019 event will be the 90th year for the multi-day festival in Grand Marais. The Lions have overseen the festivities for most of those years.
And according to current Lions Club President Gene Erickson, the tradition will continue.
However, Erickson acknowledged that many Lions Club members are getting older and are ready to step back from some of the work of Fisherman's Picnic. He encouraged anyone interested in becoming a Lion to come to a meeting or talk to a local Lions Club member.
The Grand Marais Lions Club meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Wunderbar in Grand Marais. Anyone interested in the Lions Club is welcome to attend. For more information, call 218-387-1478.
And more information, directly from Lions Club President Gene Erickson can be heard in this interview.
