Just after 5 p.m. this evening, March 29, an emergency call went out to the Grand Marais Fire Department to respond to a kitchen fire at the GunFlint Tavern in downtown Grand Marais. The reporting party said the building was filling with smoke and there were visible flames.

Staff and customers evacuated and the fire department quickly extinguished the fire.

Within minutes, customers were allowed to return to the building which did not appear to have any damage, however a heavy smell of smoke was still evident.
