WTIP announced today that Joe Friedrichs is now the news director for the local community radio station.

Friedrichs was appointed to the new post as long-serving News Director Jay Andersen begins to reduce his role at the station and enjoy retirement. Andersen will remain on staff at WTIP and serve as senior editor. Andersen will also continue hosting the popular morning program, Daybreak.

WTIP Station Manager Deb Benedict says: “We are thrilled with the evolution of our news team, which includes hiring Rhonda Silence and former youth radio project host Sterling Anderson. We appreciate the guidance Jay Andersen has given us through the years as news director. We support his decision to curtail his hours, yet remain on staff as senior editor. Joe will lead us forward as we continue to expand and deepen our local news coverage.”
