First light, first laker as shipping season begins on Lake Superior

The first U.S.-flag lakers departed from the Port of Duluth-Superior on Wednesday, March 22, signaling the start of the 2017 commercial shipping season at the farthest inland port on the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway system.

WTIP’s Joe Friedrichs spoke with Public Relations Director Adele Yorde from the Duluth Seaway Port Authority to find out the details.
