The John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon was established in 1980 in honor of John Beargrease, the son of an Anishinaabe Chief, who was pivotal in the development of Minnesota’s North Shore of Lake Superior.
The Beargrease will host more than 60 world class mushers throughout the race series that starts Sunday, January 26 at 11 a.m. in Duluth and runs through January 29th.
The long-distance race will finish in Grand Portage sometime on Tuesday. The finish always depends on trail conditions.
Monica Hendrickson handles marketing and outreach for the Beargrease and she spoke with WTIP volunteer Mark Abrahamson about the 2020 sled dog race.
