The Cook County Sheriff's Office has announced that the 911 emergency system is back in service. The outage began at 1 p.m.
During the outage, emergency responders staffed local fire halls, as is the usual protocol in this situation. If there is a phone or 911 outage, residents are asked to go to area fire halls where emergency responders who are connected to the sheriff's office 911 Dispatch through the ARMER Radio Network are available.
Cook County Sheriff Pat Eliasen told WTIP that telephone provider CenturyLink said the 911 outage was caused by a loss of power.
Sheriff Eliasen added a thank you to the emergency responders who stood by at fire halls.
