Doo-Kirk discusses not running for reelection, status of local government
Cook County Commissioner Heidi Doo-Kirk did not file for reelection this year, opening up the District 4 seat that includes the Gunflint Trail and Devil Track Lake areas.
A two-term incumbent, Doo-Kirk told WTIP’s Joe Friedrichs in late June why she chose not to run for reelection this year. Listen to the audio below to find out the specifics, as well as how Doo-Kirk feels about the status of local government and what type of person she thinks should be selected as the next county administrator.
In Doo-Kirk’s absence, four candidates filed to represent District 4 on the Cook County Board of Commissioners starting in January 2021. The candidates are Dean Berglund, Charles Christiansen, Ann Sullivan and Steve Watson. The official primary election day is Aug. 11 to narrow the pool of candidates to two before the general election in November.
WTIP is hosting a candidate forum for the District 4 seat Thursday, July 23. The live program starts at 7 p.m.
