DNR to host online meeting about wolves in Cook County and North Shore area
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is hosting an online and public meeting this week about wolves as they aim to form a new state wolf management plan. The workings of the plan are being constructed by the DNR with the increasing likelihood that federal protections of wolves will be removed in the near future.
The virtual open houses, held from 6-8 p.m., include informational presentations from the DNR and will allow public input and questions. The first of these meetings was held last week on Sept. 29 and focused on the northwest part of the state. The second is set for Oct. 6 and will focus on what are largely considered non-wolf areas of the state, including the Twin Cities metro area.
The third meeting, which focuses on the North Shore, Cook County and other parts of northeastern Minnesota, is set for Thursday, Oct. 8 starting at 6 p.m.
The open houses will be accessible by computer, smartphone or telephone. Registration for the event is required. Sign up by clicking here.
Dan Stark, the DNR’s specialist for large carnivores, spoke with WTIP’s Joe Friedrichs about the upcoming meeting regarding wolves and wolf management. The audio below is their entire conversation.
