Demolition begins at former motel site in Grand Marais

The long-awaited demolition of the former Tomteboda Resort/Grand Marais Inn property began this morning, Monday, July 30.

The $92,000 bid for the demolition by Veit Construction was accepted back in June, however the project was delayed when asbestos was found in one of the building’s foundations.

Mitigation of the asbestos was completed and the work has finally begun. Veit will raze the structures on the site, remove the debris, and fill in the crawlspaces and foundations.

City Administrator Mike Roth said if all goes well the work should be complete within two or three days.
