'Dark Sky Memories' from Grand Portage

Shelley McIntire is a longtime resident of Cook County and a member of the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa.

She describes herself as being “retired, a former librarian, an Indian land and history researcher and a photographer.”

She is also in love with the night sky.

In this collection of short stories, McIntire reflects on memories from her life involving the night sky and northern lights.

This piece was produced for WTIP by Joe Friedrichs. It will be shared during an event at North House Folk School in Grand Marais on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 8:30 p.m. The event will highlight the photographs of local photographer Travis Novitsky, who is also McIntire’s cousin.
