At approximately 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 19, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from the Grand Portage Port of Entry where a male US Customs & Border Protection (CBP) Officer was found fatally wounded from what is believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The name of the CBP Officer is being withheld while an investigation continues and autopsy is completed.

“This is an extremely tough loss,” said Sheriff Pat Eliasen. “He was well known and respected in the community and protective service agencies, and our hearts and prayers are with his family, colleagues and community during this difficult time.”

No further details will be released at this time.
