County administrator discusses local tax base

During a board meeting Sept. 11, the Cook County Board of Commissioners set the 2019 Preliminary Levy at $553,460 - a 5.99 percent increase over last year. The county’s budget committee, county staff and commissioners will continue to review and refine the budget over the next several months.

Similarly, the St. Louis County Board approved its proposed property tax levy at $136.7 million for 2019, a figure that could result in a modest tax decrease for property owners, due to an increase in the county’s property tax base.

WTIP’s Joe Friedrichs spoke with Cook County Administrator Jeff Cadwell about the context of these scenarios, and what an expanding tax base could mean for local residents.
