Cook County Sheriff's Office responds to intended suicide call, finds victim deceased

At approximately 2:15 pm Sunday, Cook County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch received a report of a suicidal male that intended to die by suicide in the woods.
 
Sheriff Pat Eliasen, three deputies, the Minnesota State Patrol and U.S. Border Patrol quickly responded traveling west on County Road 7 to search for the man in the County Road 6/Meridian Road area. Officers located the man deceased from what appears to be a gunshot wound on the Superior Hiking Trail off County Road 6 just after 3 pm. 
 
It is known that the man was suffering with cancer. The Cook County Sheriff’s Office has not released the name of the deceased.
