Heading into the second full week of May, Cook County is one of only three counties across Minnesota without a confirmed case of COVID-19. The others are Lake of the Woods and Hubbard counties.

News of a confirmed case in Lake County on May 7 has communities on the North Shore on high alert for the potential spread of the new coronavirus, though preparation and planning for the arrival of COVID-19 has been active for months.

Meanwhile, North Shore Health received some good news to start the month of May when it was announced the local hospital in Grand Marais would receive a $1.4 million Small Business Administration loan through the payroll protection program.
