Vikings, Mariners end boys' basketball seasons with Section 7-A losses

The boys’ basketball season ended Saturday for both Cook County and Silver Bay as the teams lost quarterfinal round games in the Section 7-A Playoffs.

Cook County lost to Fond du Lac Ojibwe, 61-53 at Hibbing Memorial Arena Saturday afternoon.

Silver Bay went down 112-92 to Anders Broman and Lakeview Christian Academy. Broman scored 44 points to set the single season record for Minnesota boys at 1,217. And, the Lions hit 20 three-point baskets on their way to the win.

David Bergstrom led the Vikings with a 25 point performance. The Vikings were down only by one at the half, 22-21, before being outscored by seven points in the second half by Fond du Lac.

Also scoring for the Vikings were Mike Sjogren with nine while Dylan Quaife and Collin Everson hit eight apiece. Kale Boomer wrapped up the Viking scoring with three. Sjogren hit the only three-pointer for Cook County.

Kello Brown led the winners with 20 points. Other Fond du Lac players in double figures were Trevonte Brown with 16 and Lee St. John with 13. St. John and Trevonte Brown each had two three-pointers

The loss ends the season at 20-3 for Cook County. Fond du Lac is now 12-13 and they face 21-3 North Woods at 6 PM, Wednesday at Hibbing Memorial Arena..

Silver Bay’s Kyle Blood racked up 39 points Saturday night, but it wasn’t enough as Lakeview Christian Academy took a 112-92 win over the Mariners at Hibbing Memorial. Nine of Blood’s 39 points came on three-point baskets.

The Mariners were down by 18 at the end of the first half. The Lions outscored Silver Bay 50-48 in the second to take the victory.

Henry Mitchell added 23 for the Mariners including a couple of threes while Baruch Fisher had 18 and Luke Thun hit 10. Taylor Woodwick scored two for the Mariners.

Broman’s game-high 44 points included eight three-point baskets while Luke Borchardt scored 19 for Lakeview. Bjorn Broman hit 17 points that included five three-pointers and Josh Plys nailed five three-pointers for 15.

Lakeview Christian Academy is now 23-5. The Lions go to Hibbing on Wednesday night to play 13-15 Mesabi East.
