Emily Johnson/Catalyst bring their Bessie Award – winning performance installation, The Thank-you Bar to Grand Marais’ Arrowhead Center For The Arts Oct 24-25, 2014 as part of the fall season for the Grand Marais Playhouse. The Thank-you Bar first premiered in 2009 in Anchorage, Alaska, and has toured across the USA to wide acclaim, propelling choreographer Emily Johnson into the national and international spotlight as a visionary contemporary dance maker.  In 2014, Emily Johnson / Catalyst received a MN State Arts Board “Arts Touring” Grant to bring a series of performances and workshops to Grand Marais in 2014 -15.

THE THANK-YOU BAR is an intimate performance experience intended to engage many levels of perception and expression. Through a sophisticated concept of theatrical space, unique and powerfully minimalist dancing, and a multi-layered original soundscore, Johnson’s illusory – yet partly true – stories ride the confluence of truth and myth. Appropriate for ages 6 and up.  Seating limited to 20 per performance.
