The Superior National Forest is purchasing native jack pine cones now through July 1. Collected seeds will support reforestation efforts in northeastern forests.

Before collecting cones, interested parties need to contact the Tofte or Gunflint Ranger Stations for information on specifications, picking locations, appropriate methods, and how to register for payment through the federal Central Contractor Registration.

The Forest Service will pay $50 to $70 per bushel for acceptable pine cones, depending on the quality before accepting delivery; a Forest Service specialist will inspect a sample of cones.
