Grand Marais City Councilors were presented with a number of actions that mean summer is just around the corner. Cook County Girl Scouts were given the go-ahead to plant a tree for the Detrick and Palmer families in memory of Dean Detrick. The scout’s Northern Light Service Director Arvis Thompson said the planting would be in front of the Detrick Building next to the library.
The council also approved two street permits for popular summertime festivals. The 20th Annual Grand Marais Arts Festival takes place July 10 and 11. Art Colony Director Amy Demmer said they expect 50 artists again this year. In its seventh year, the Dragon Boat Festival is July 29 through August 1. The parade of teams and opening ceremonies take place the evening of Friday, July 30 and the races are all day Saturday the 31st.
