Even though the state parks are closed during the state government shutdown there are plenty of places to camp in Cook County.

The U.S. Forest Service has many campgrounds outside of the Boundary Waters, with most of the same amenities as state parks. Both the Gunflint and Tofte ranger stations have printed descriptions and maps. The Gunflint office number is (218) 387-1750; the Tofte office is (218) 663-7280.

There are many private campgrounds in the county, both along the shore and up the Gunflint Trail. The Cook County Visitors Bureau has complete information on where to go and who to contact. Their number is 1-888-922-5000.
