Travelers on Hwy 1 this summer will see some detours as the Minnesota Department of Transportation reconstructs a section 15 miles south of Ely. Reconstruction will begin where the last project left off at the new Tomahawk Rd., and work north for five miles.

The project is expected to cost over $8 million and barring any delays, is expected to start in July and be completed by November.

According to MnDOT, this will be a total reconstruction which will smooth out some of the curves and soften some of the hills. They will also provide four-foot paved shoulders.
