Thursday morning, two law enforcement officers accompanied by Kaiser the drug sniffing dog, searched portions of Cook County Schools buildings and parking lot. The search was planned in advance, there was no incident that triggered the search, however the school went into “lock-down without intruder mode” while regular classroom activities continued.

After a 45 minute search, the German shepherd had not alerted, so officers planted an illegal substance to be sure he was working properly. He located the substance as he had been trained to do.

ISD166 plans to hold one or two random and unannounced searches each school year to help maintain a drug-free campus.
