In late October of last year, the Grand Marais Municipal Pool sustained heavy damage to its roof during a violent storm. Just over two months later, the facility is back up and running, although the big pool is still too cool to use. Parks Manager Dave Tersteeg says the temperature right now is in the low 50's and has to reach 80 degrees before people can go into the water.
“It’s slowly warming, a couple degrees a day, but this cold outside weather isn’t helping," said Tersteeg. "It will probably be another week or so before we can start swimming in the big pool, but the sauna, hot tub and kiddie pool are all open normal hours."
The park is throwing a grand re-opening “Big Splash Party” on Wednesday, January 19, with free admission, extended hours, refreshments and door prizes. For more information, call the pool at 387-1275.
