Playoffs start tonight at home
The football season gets really serious tonight when the 6 and 1 Cook County Vikings host the 2 and 5 Mesabi East Giants in the first round of Section 7-A playoffs in Grand Marais.
The Vikings beat the Giants 39 to 6 on September 16th in Aurora in Great Polar Red Alliance competition. The winner of tonight’s game will play the winner of the East Central-Deer River matchup at 2 PM Saturday. Home field advantage will go to the higher seed in the section. Cook County is seeded number three and Mesabi East is number six. Deer River is seeded number two while East Central is seeded number 7.
Norman Moe and Dick Dorr will bring you all the action live tonight from Lyle Anderson Field on WTIP. They will have their pre-game discussion around 5:45 followed by the play-by-play at 6 PM. Weather permitting, WTIP and Boreal are planning to provide a live video-stream of the game combined with the WTIP broadcast team describing the action.
Tomorrow night at 7 o’clock, the Vikings’ number one seeded volleyball team hosts the second round match in Section 7-A playoffs. The 18 and 2 Cook County team will host 10-17-and-1 Duluth Marshall. The Hilltoppers defeated Mesabi East last night in first round play by scores of 25 to 22, 18 to 25, 25 to 22 and 25 to 22.
Tomorrow night’s match is scheduled for WTIP broadcast starting about 6:45 PM with Bob Carter and Kelly Roberts calling the action. WTIP and Boreal also are planning on a live video webstream of the match with the WTIP broadcast team providing the audio.
The winner of the second round volleyball game faces the winner of the game between number 4 seed Cromwell and Silver Bay. The 10 and 1 Mariners beat Fond du Lac last night by scores of 25 to 4, 25 to 15 and 25 to 3. Cromwell had a first round bye.
Vikings season passes are not valid for Minnesota State High School League games. Tickets will be available at the gate.
