Pagami Creek Fire campfire and closure updates for Sept. 20
A complete open campfire ban continues throughout the entire Superior National Forest – including residences. Only gas and propane fires are allowed. The campfire ban includes the Superior Hiking Trail campsites, in or out of the Superior National Forest. The USFS Pagami Creek Fire Closure maps that can be found on line are travel maps, showing the closure boundaries and are not meant to show campfire restrictions.
As firefighters continue to make progress in suppressing and containing the Pagami Creek Fire, the Forest Service is adjusting closures on the Superior National Forest, including the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
It is important to note that, due to safety concerns, the Forest Service is only allowing day use in some areas while other areas continue to be closed to the public. As of 12:01 am today, Sept. 20, the following closures are in effect...
#28 Snowbank, #29 North Kawishiwi River, #30 Lake One, #31 Farm Lake, #32 South Kawishiwi River, #33 Little Gabbro, #34 Island River, #35 Isabella, #36 Hog Creek, #37 Kawishiwi Lake, #67 Bog Lake, #75 Little Isabella River, #84 Snake River and South Farm (day use motor).
BWCAW trails closed to overnight hiking include #56 Kekekabic East, #74 Kekekabic West /Snowbank and #86 Pow Wow Hiking Trail.
BWCAW entry points closed for overnight use, where day use travel only is allowed includes entry #51 Missing Link Lake and #52 Brant Lake. Lakes near these entry points are also only open for day trips, including Cross Bay, Missing Link, Brant, Everett, Gotter, and Blue Snow Lakes.
Several entry points are open with travel restrictions, including #38 Sawbill where no travel is allowed west of Sawbill Lake. Entry Point 54 Seagull Lake and #55 Saganaga Lake are open for travel up to the closure area which is generally considered to be the area from Ester Lake south to Ogishkemuncie and from the north side of Ogishkemuncie east around the south shore of Seagull Lake.
All permits requesting entry from Canada must be coordinated with the Supervisor’s Office to ensure that parties are not entering a closed area.
A number of forest roads are closed: County Highway 7 North at the intersection of 4 mile Grade Rd and all roads and trails north of 4-Mile Grade Rd/170/The Grade Rd. Also closed are Wilson Lake Rd. Forest Roads 355, 348, 1226, 347 and 1238.
