The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is lifting restrictions on open burning statewide, thanks to the cooler, wet weather.
The restrictions were lifted at 12:01 a.m. today. That means campfires will be allowed through the state and permits for open burning of debris will again be issued.
The U.S. Forest Service also is lifting campfire restrictions on the Chippewa National Forest and Superior National Forest, including the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
As of this morning, visitors can again build or use a fire, campfire, charcoal fire or wood-burning stove any time of day in the two national forests.
Although restrictions are being lifted, officials remind people to be careful with campfires and open burning.
