Four candidates interested in filling for the Hovland area District 5 Soil and Water Conservation District supervisor vacancy were interviewed by the Cook County SWCD board at a special meeting on Monday. The board subsequently announced the appointment of Jesse Derscheid as District 5 supervisor.

Derscheid has a degree in Environmental-Chemical Technologies and has experience conducting field work for environmental studies both nationally and internationally. He also is familiar with the conservation issues and projects in the Hovland area.

Derscheid will be sworn in at Soil and Water’s next regular scheduled board meeting on Thursday, March 3 and will serve through 2012.
