Lodging tax revenues for the month of August were up from July county-wide according to the latest report from the Cook County Auditor-Treasurer’s office.

Lutsen-Tofte revenues for the year-to-date are up 7.2%. Grand Marais year-to-date revenues are up 4.6%. The Gunflint Trail revenues for the year so far, are up 4.1%. Overall, lodging tax revenues county-wide are up 6.2% for the year-to-date. Historically, August is the busiest tourist month in the county.

The Auditor’s office emphasizes that not all businesses report taxes at the same time each year and revenues are an “apples-to-apples comparison.” That means only businesses which reported lodging tax revenues both in August of this year and last year are included in the monthly accounting.
