GRAND MARAIS AREA

According to our fishing expert Jon Muhich of Buck’s Hardware, word is that fishing’s picking up as we do a full swing into summer.

Word up at Hungry Jack has been good. Walleyes were still shallow (under ten feet) and they’re using leeches and minnows as bait. Still fishing, live rigs and jigs were all successful. The northerns were also looking pretty good trolling with spoons (shallow) as well as using sucker minnows and a bobber. The smallies also started hitting so keep an eye out for them.

Elbow Lake has been doing fairly well so you might want to head up there to your favorite spot and drop a minnow or two. Spinners were working here for some people so keep that in mind.

Homer Lake reported nice walleyes, again -- shallow using jigs and minnows and leeches. Slow troll with a live bait rig and keep it fairly shallow and you should see some success.

Crescent and Caribou were also showing decent signs of fish. Same M.O. as before: keep it shallow. The lakes are still cold.
