GRAND MARAIS AREA
The fish are biting!

WALLEYES - Sources are indicating that leeches are the way to go. Fishing in depths of 8-12 feet of water near rock piles or weed beds will put you on the fish. Area lakes to try your luck include: Seagull, Saganaga, Homer, Crescent, Deer Yard, Hungry Jack, and Poplar.

NORTHERNS - are biting on sucker minnows in 10-15 feet of water. Just settle one near the bottom and wait for some dynamite action. Lakes to try include: Northern Light, Loon, Hungry Jack, Gunflint and Elbow.

SMALLMOUTH BASS - The smallies are everywhere. They’re hitting on minnows, nightcrawlers, Mepps spinners, Rapalas, and small spoons. Area lake action includes: Devil Track Lake,Seagull, Poplar, and Saganaga.

LAKE TROUT - Still incredible action on the Lakers. Slow trolling in 30 feet of water is how a lot of fisherman are going after them. Also a jig and a minnow is reporting success. Lakes to try: Saganaga, Seagull, Gunflint, and Duncan.

Other stream trout such as RAINBOWS and BROOKIES are being taken on Crawlers in about 15 feet of water. Some suggested lakes include: Leo, Trout, Moss, Esther, and Mink.

And for you Lake Superior fisherman there are reports that the SALMON are hitting around Grand Marais harbor -- trolling spoons in about 80 feet of water. There are some real beauts being caught right now.
